Canon EF-S Lenses
The compact sensor size of the EOS 30D, 40D, 50D and EOS 450D, 400D & 350D result in a useful 1.6x multiplier effect on the focal length of attached lenses. However this also makes it technically difficult to achieve a wide angle of view with traditional lenses.
Canon has responded by extending the EF lens range to include new wide angle EF-S lenses purpose built for these cameras. EF-S lenses (with the white mounting spot) will not fit conventional EOS cameras. |

Canon Prime Lenses
Fixed focal length lenses (prime lenses) generally offer a wider maximum aperture than zoom lenses. From ultra-wide angle lenses ideal for indoor shooting to long telephoto lenses extensively used for wildlife, sports and news photography Canon has the fixed focal length lens to suit you.

Canon Zoom Lenses
Zoom lenses are very convenient. The equivalent of two or more fixed focal length lenses in one unit. The maximum aperture of some zoom lenses changes as you alter the focal length, but through-the-lens (TTL) metering takes this into account to give correct exposure.

Canon Macro Lenses
To bring small things into full-sized view, select from one of the lenses in this category. Macro lenses can uncover detail that would be impossible to detect by the eye and give new perspective to extremely minute subjects such as insects or the petals of a small flower. |

Canon Tilt & Shift Lenses
These special lenses with their tilt and shift movements further expand photographic possibilities. Tilt movements allow you to obtain a wide depth of field even at the maximum aperture and still keep the entire subject in focus. Shift movements correct the trapezoidal effect seen in pictures taken of tall objects such as buildings, so that the subject does not look distorted. |

Canon Extenders
Extender is Canon's name for a teleconverter. These high-performance accessories multiply the effective focal length of an attached lens by 1.4x or 2x. For example, a 200mm lens with Extender 1.4x has an effective focal length of 280mm: with the Extender 2x, this increases to 400mm. Extenders are only compatible with selected EF lenses, including the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, EF 70-200mm f/4L, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM, EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM and fixed length L-series lenses of 135mm or higher |
